University of South Dakota graduate Ned Wheaton is a friendly, approachable, and enthusiastic piano teacher and performer with experience teaching students of all abilities. With a strong background in solo performance, accompaniment, and collaborative music, he is passionate about helping students build confidence, technique, and enjoyment in music at their own pace.
Ned studied piano at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire under Professors John Thwaites, Jan Loeffler and Pascal Nemirovski, and has performed internationally, including appearances at the InterHarmony International Music Festival. Alongside his teaching, he has worked with and learned from internationally recognised musicians including Peter Donohoe, Lars Vogt, and Vanessa Latarche.
As a teacher, Ned creates a supportive, engaging, and enjoyable learning environment tailored to each student’s individual goals, whether they are complete beginners learning for enjoyment or more advanced pianists developing their musical skills and preparing for exams. He is well versed in the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) examination system and is happy to support students working towards graded exams where desired. However, he believes exams should never feel compulsory, and places equal importance on creativity, confidence, and fostering a genuine enjoyment of music.
While Ned’s background and speciality are in classical piano, he encourages students to explore the music that inspires them personally, helping lessons remain fun, comfortable, and rewarding. His calm and encouraging approach helps students feel supported to progress at their own pace.
